Year 4 Culminating

January 2017—TGI4MP—Ms. Silverman
Portfolio Culminating Project – 30%
Mark Breakdown –
Demo Reel: 60%  Artist Intro Letter 15% Presentation/Interview 15%
Written documentation of artwork 10%

Demo Reel: You will produce a video/motion graphic archive of your best works produced in CyberARTS. This demo reel will be created in Adobe After Effects or Premiere. Your portfolio should demonstrate both your creative talents and your technological versatility. Choose items from as wide a range of media and applications as possible. Remember, the design and editing of the demo reel itself is almost more important than the portfolio items it is demonstrating. You may choose to use a demo reel even if your work is not exclusively motion, but has a large still component. There are many creative ways to ‘animate’ still images. But beware of the ‘cheese’ factor (ie. Don’t make it cheesy and only use the Ken Burns effect!) Please look at the blog post to read through the tips for demo reels and consider these tips!
Remember that your work is only as impressive as the way it is presented. Portfolios should be clean, professional and well designed.
There will also be a written component (Introduction Letter/documentation of artwork) that will make up approximately 25% of the evaluation for your culminating activity. This culminating activity will make up 30% of your final mark.
Note: You will be “interviewed” about your portfolio during your presentation. You will receive the questions in advance.

Content Requirements – Included in the reel
1)    Demo reel must be a minimum of 60 seconds and no longer than 90 seconds in length. Keep in mind that less is more!
2)    Written information: Your name and areas of interest must be included in the portfolio/demo reel. Additionally, you must credit the music chosen – copyright free only please.
3)    The Lakeshore CI CyberARTS logo must be shown at some point in the reel. As well as YOUR logo/visual identity and animated logo. Your visual identity project may be used as one of the projects as well as incorporated into the overall design of your demo reel/website.
4)    There must be a wide range of projects featured from both Tech and Art and may be from all years of your time in CyberARTS (minimum of 10 projects – max. 15)(*For those new to CyberARTS, you may use other personal projects from the past, or anything else you created within the last 2-3 years. As long as it ‘sells’ you as a digital artist)
5)    Chosen projects should be of a high quality and should be presented in a dynamic and engaging way.

Written Requirements – Two documents
1)    Reference page (10%): A written document must be included with the name of each project and the media used to create it. Also, include the Yearsize (if applicable) and a short description that explains the concept behind the work.
2)    The Introduction Letter: This will act as a cover letter or statement of your professional/academic interests. This will be included as a printed document (design of this document will also be evaluated).

Artist Introduction Letter (worth 15% of your total portfolio mark)
This letter must be presented as a printed document that is stylistically related to your portfolio—i.e., the typography and other design elements (your logo!) must be consistent with the look of your portfolio (web, demo reel). It must cover the following topics:
1)    Brief intro/background that tells people who you are and what your interests are within traditional art and/or new media.
2)    Identify the topics in CyberARTS that you found the most interesting/satisfying/enjoyable and describe one project within each side of CyberARTS (Art and Tech) of which you are most proud.
3)    Describe the skills you have learned in CyberARTS (technical, creative, conceptual or otherwise).
4)    Describe the skill(s) within CyberARTS (whether technical, creative, conceptual, or process oriented) you want to improve on the most, and why.
5)    What hopes you have for your future involvement in CyberARTS related areas as a subject in a post-secondary institution, as a career, or as a way to support other interests in your life.
6)    A conclusion that introduces your portfolio to your audience.
