Reviewing the 12 Principles of Animation
For more information and detail about what each of those principles actually means, check out this article about the 'old men of Disney' and the 12 principles of animation. They actually developed these principles and they still check out today and the basis for all animation.
Pose to Pose - understanding key poses. Click here to get a better understanding of creating key poses that essentially create your animation.
Inbetweens and motion arcs. Here you can learn about how to make things appear smooth - timing and motion arcs are particularly important.
Please view the video and read through the article so that you have an understanding of some of the main principles of animation. You will need to be able to identify them in the kinetic typography you analyze, but you should also be implementing some of them in your kinetic typography.
RESEARCH:
1. Review or learn about the 12 principles of animation. Read the article linked above and watch the video above.
2. Watch and search for great examples of kinetic typography.
Here's "The Child". Amazing what you can do with a bunch of words.
3. Post one amazing kinetic typography video on your blog. Write a brief analysis of the video.
Include the following:
- 3-4 examples of principles of animation (you need to identify the specific timecode when you observed the principle of animation and explain why you think it's a good example of it)
- Your observations (like we did in class) of pace, timing, choice of font, colours used and any particular techniques or movements used that were especially effective in expressing the mood and sound of the piece of music/spoken word and also how the words sound when they're spoken/sung.

Lighting for Video and Film - Year 3 TECH
Lighting for Video and Film
Here is a great video that clearly describes a basic three-point lighting set up with a black background, a white background and also a film noir, moody set up.
Here's one on using a green screen. Very handy for eliminating the background and adding graphics or any other kind of background.
Making your video look like film. Check out this video
Please review these videos and look/think about any other ways you can creatively and stylistically light your video to take it to the next level.
Read this article and watch the Lenny Kravitz video for a sense of a stylistic coherence.
Pay particular attention to the suggestions to NOT be literal.
"The music videos that tend to be appreciated by the industry these days are highly conceptual. This means that the imagery used in the music video is mostly unrelated to the lyrics "
Typography Exploration - Year 2 Tech
Please make sure you have the paperwork (2 handouts) done by Friday - as well as your Mainstage Drama Promo work in the drop folder.
Typography Exploration Assignment is due on Monday by the end of class - in the dropoff folder as a pdf, and then posted on your blog with a brief written statement by Tuesday morning.
Statement should include how you interpreted the word - definition and how it sounds when spoken/heard - and how you chose to visually illustrate the word. Don't forget to include layout - placement (size in relation to format, composition).
