Where to begin?
1. Search for creative typography and also inspiring spoken word and poetry and post your results and answers as required in my last post.
2. Check out this video. The Child. By Antoine Bardou-Jacquet. It's created entirely with type.
3. Decide on the source you will use. Use one of your written pieces that will result in a 30sec - 1 minute animation. If you choose a song or movie/tv clip that belongs to someone else, you'll never be able to submit your work to Adobe Youth Voices or any other contests, or sell it for profit; however, you would be able to have it as part of your portfolio.
4. Pick a font (or fonts) to act as the basis for your animation. Sites like http://www.myfonts.com and http://www.fonts.com are a a great place to try to narrow down which font will work for you. Also, go through the fonts that are available on your computer (that way you'll know you have them).
5. Now you will need to storyboard your animation. Using the storyboard templates (provided), you will need to plan out how you will be laying out your type and how you will be animating it to match the content, atmosphere and timing of your source. You will need to practice reading it (or have it read by someone else), and then record the audio.
6. Finally, you will create your backgrounds and your type animations in Adobe After Effects.
7. In addition to the animation, we will be working with sound and music in order for you to create an original soundtrack for your piece.

Post some inspiring work - Kinetic Typography and other stuff...
Please find at least two videos - one of which MUST be kinetic typography that you find inspiring.
The other(s) can be anything that inspired you in terms of style, message or story.
For each of the videos you find, write about the following:
1. What is the story? What has changed from the beginning to the end of the piece?
2. Who is the audience for this piece? What in the piece tells you that it was created for this audience?
3. What is the message of this piece? Is there more than one message? If so, what are the additional messages?
4. Comment on the style of this piece. How would you describe it? Fiction/non-fiction, poetic? personal story? etc.
5. What are the techniques the artists used to convey their message? Interviews, text, performance, music etc.?
6. How is the overall quality (visuals, audio, clarity, volume, objects or sounds that are distracting...)?
7. How do the audio/visuals contribute to the message and the story?

| At the AGO w/Henry Moore Sculpture. Photographed by Vacho. |
Please write a reflection on our trip to the Art Gallery of Ontario. What do you notice about seeing art first hand rather than in a book or online? Would you go again on your own? (don't forget free after 3 for students Tues- Fri)
Visit the Google Art Project to find artwork from the AGO that you remember and that made an impression on you (good or bad!) Upload to your blog.
http://www.googleartproject.com/collection/art-gallery-of-ontario/
Or you may want to upload a photo that you took yourself that day. Consider choosing a painting from the art history period you've studied for our presentations; choose a piece of art that really 'moved' you; or even one that made you mad...
Be sure to explain why you chose the piece and what you think about this artwork. Let's stir up some discussion! Visit each other's blogs and exchange ideas please; that's half the fun!
Note: Not all of the AGO's artwork is on this site; however, the Google Art Project allows you to view many images in extremely high resolution. If you can't find an image of an artwork you saw at the gallery, you may be able to find it on the usual 'Google images'.
This assignment is due by next Monday, April 15th and will be marked in lieu of a sketchbook assignment this week. Thanks!
Inspiring speeches, poems and kinetic typography
Why I hate school but love education.
Why I hate religion but love Jesus
Find some inspirational speeches or poems that you think might make for good kinetic typography.
Also, find at least two kinetic typography pieces to share with the class. Post them on your blog and discuss why you find them inspiring as animations.
Here are a few amazing pieces to check out.
This one is about Helvetica. That's right, the typeface. Helvetica.
Let the Drummer Kick - great music video. Check out how well the typographic illustration and animation matches the content of the words...Determination....Identification...
This one is just set to music, but it used the characters on a keyboard as imagery. Very interesting...
