Written Statement for Video Self-Portrait - Year One Tech

Please read through the requirements below to write about your Culminating Video Self-Portrait project

Artist Statement Requirements _ Video Self-Portrait

Your artist statement for your video self-portrait must cover the following:

1.     Conceptual ideas, visual symbolism and meaning
What were some of the ideas you were trying to convey about yourself? What (if any) visual imagery did you use to convey/express these or other ideas, literally or symbolically?
2.     Technical aspects
Discuss the choices you made in terms of the style of imagery (stills, video), types of shots (angles, camera shots, camera movements, composition – use of selective focus etc.), pace (how quickly or slowly the shots moved and changed, soundtrack (any music, sounds you chose to include) and choice of words (text vs. spoken).
3.     Explain and justify your choices both in terms of technical quality AND meaning – expression of YOU.



Artist statement must be typed 1-2 pages and should explain in detail your concept, stylistic choices and use of techniques learned in the class that combined to express your “self-portrait”.

Demo Reels (Year Four option)
It seems likely that while you may not be ready for a demo reel, some of you may want to try it out as your final portfolio. It's a very effective and snazzy way to show your work, but with everything motion related, timing and quality are so important, as is an appropriate soundtrack.
