Optical Devices

Laura Hayes and John Howard Wileman Exhibit of Optical Toys

Here is an example of an old-school optical toy. Check out this great site and post your opinion of it on your blog. You can comment on the layout of the site, your favorite toy and how it works, or any other opinion you have concerning the site. Remember to search through many pages on the site to see how all of those toys work!

Mixed Media Artwork

I thought I could give you a little more research to do this week. Check out mixed media artist Barbara Kruger. Her works of strong social commentary are created to resemble magazine and newspaper graphic design.
Find an interesting work from Kruger. Create a link and post your thoughts about the message in the work of art.

Do we really only exist to shop? Who is the 'I' referring to in the quote? Are the things that we buy what defines us? Are possessions most important to finding out who we are in this world?

Intro to Animation

Check out this animation. I'm sure that many of you have tried to make flip books before. Let's try again. Take a simple action and have it animate by drawing it slowly changing as each page reveals. A post-it-note pad works well, or the bottom corner of your sketchbook maybe. See what yu can do!

Colour and Fashion

All designers need to be aware of what colors are 'in' at the moment or will be in in the near future. Check out this great site that gives the CMYK for popular colors in fashion. Look at the Spring 2008 colours and post a comment here on which is your favorite pantone colour in the spring collection.
fashiontrendsetter.co

Then, browse through the site and get a feeling for what web and print designers consider when they are working with the world of fashion. Create a post on you blog that describes what you think are the main elements that designers must consider when designing for the fashion industry.

Research and Inspiration

Here are two ways to link to videos on youtube.

The first is to create a link:

Check out this animation!

The second is to embed the video:
Wow! this person can draw!

It's your turn to add a video to your blog that is inspiring for all of the Cyber Artists!

Post your Chess Piece

To complete our drawing assignment, you need to photograph and post your chess piece drawing on your blog. With the image, you must write a paragraph about how you used line and value in your drawing. Describe how you created movement, if you created rhythm or pattern, how you contrasted light and dark values, or anything else you wish to express. This will be marked as an artist statement for your drawing assignment. Have fun!

Getting to Know You

This year, the CyberARTS program has started strong! Everyone's blogs are looking great and I have created links to all of the students who have submitted their URLs. Let me know if you would prefer to change the title to your link. (I wasn't sure if I should use your names or the name of your blogs.)

Now, it is your job to create your own links to the rest of the class. Some of you have started this already and one talented artist gets a bonus buck for naming me the head honcho!

Once you have finished creating your link list, your next assignment is to read every Art Critique and leave a comment for each Cyber Artist. They are a lot of fun to read!
I will be marking your blog assignments every Saturday so make sure you keep up.

Feel free to add your own little touches to your blog and other entries that are not assignments, too!

Welcome to Lakeshore CI CyberARTS

Welcome to Year 1 CyberARTS at Lakeshore CI!
This will be an easy way for teachers and students to communicate and showcase our work. Your first assignment will be to create your own blog and then link back to this one. You must also post the CyberARTS logo on your site for easy access.
I am looking forward to getting to know each of you!
