The 12 Principles of Animation - Year One

1. Please read through this article on the 12 principles of animation.

2. In your groups, divide the 12 principles so that each group member chooses 4 of these principles to explain in your own words on your blog.

3. Then find a video that demonstrates at least those 4 principles (it can show all of them too), and post this on your blog.

4. On Thursday I will be asking each group to present 3 principles at random. You will find out at the beginning of class - so be ready to present any of the 4 principles that you have learned about.

Year Four - Visual Identity requirements and written statement

Please post the following on your blog.

Year Four – Visual Identity requirements.

1.     Logo – in colour AND black and white – must be re-sizable!!!
2.     Stationary – includes business card, envelope and letter head
3.     Flyer – a promotional flyer that includes all your contact information, logo and some teasers – a glimpse into your style/some imagery
4.     Animated logo
5.     Two more visual or audio pieces of promotional marketing material.
Could be a website, clothing, poster, magazine ad, video ad, audio ad, etc.

What to write about when posting on your blog:

Please identify the nature and personality of your company. What do you do and what is your style/personality as a creative business? Explain your design choices in terms of the logo (colour, line quality and type, shape etc.) stationary and animated logo and how these design choices support your company’s nature and personality. Also explain why you chose to use the specific additional marketing pieces you did and how that also compliments your creative business and personality.

How to present all of the components on a 13x19 page.

Consider the principles of design when choosing your layout. Separate each component in some way. Create a natural eyeflow from one piece to the next and choose a focal point. Consider visual hierarchy.

At the bottom left write the following:

CyberARTS program
Your name - CyberARTS Year Four student - Branding and Visual Identity Assignment.
The purpose of this assignment was to create a visual identity for myself in my chosen creative career area. My company ______________ does/is/creates..... (what's the nature of your business?). My colour scheme and design helps identify the ________________ personality of my business/company.

Basically explain what you did in your first sentences from your blog post.

This MUST be ready to print by the end of class on Tuesday November 26th.

You will be marked on presentation, professionalism and completion, both on your blog post and on the printed component.

Here are some samples below from the Applied Arts Expo

Year Three - Interviewee Research!!

We are dividing and conquering today - we have our first interview booked with Anusree Roy (pronounced Anushree - notice how she says her own name in the first video interview)

Watch the video and research this playwright and actor to learn more about her. This might help inform the kinds of questions we ask. Better to get more footage then just the bare minimum. We should get her talking briefly about her history in theatre and accomplishments as well as how Drama at Lakeshore impacted her.

Anusree Roy     anusreeroy@hotmail.com
Anusree Roy is a Governor General’s Award nominated writer, and actor whose work has toured nationally. Her plays include: Brothel # 9, Roshni, Letters to my Grandma and Pyaasa. Her Opera librettos include: The Golden Boy and Noor over Afghan. Her latest librettoPhoolan Devi will premiere at N.Y.C in the fall of 2014.
She holds a B.A from York University and an M.A from the University to Toronto. She is the Co-Artistic Director of Theatre Jones Roy and has been published by the Playwright’s Canada Press. Her plays and performances have won her three Dora Mavor Moore Awards along with multiple nominations. She is the recipient of the K.M.Hunter Award, RBC Emerging Artist Award, The Carol Bolt Award and The Siminovitch Protégé Prize. Anusree’s playwright-in-residence include: Factory Theatre, The Blyth Festival, Theatre Passe Muraille and Canadian Stage Company. She is currently developing her very first TYA play, "Sultans of the Street" which is being produced at Young People’s Theatres 2013/2014 season.

Now look her up and found out more about her.
While some of you are doing this research - the others will be testing in the auditorium one more time!!

Try out some animation! Bonus assignment

For those of you who have completed everything - and I mean EVERYTHING, to date, you may explore the world of animation by creating a simple animation using Adobe Flash, Adobe Photshop Or Adobe After Effects. You could also try out another type of animation using stop-motion or making your own zoetrope - see YuQin's blog ZYQ for a tutorial on that!
Find a simple tutorial and try it out. I suggest starting with a very simple animation like a bouncing ball.

Keep it simple and HAVE FUN!

Pixillation - huh?

Ok. We've looked at many stop-motion animations. Now we're going to hone in on specifically pixilation.

Check out this LINK to see several projects made by using live people in the place of inanimate objects to create funny and interesting pixilation projects.

The Hunter College Video was inspired by this one. Joey Ramone - New York City

Now check out this cool tutorial on how to create a 360 degree building spin.

This one by PES - Human Skateboard also shows how creative you can get with this technique.
