Submission for Basquiat Inspired Digital Image

Please make sure that your digital image is printable (300 p.p.i) min. 8.5x11", max. 13x19".

Please post the image on your blog AND drop it off in the CyberARTS folder (Original format - .psd) (Yearbook - CyberARTS - Year 3 - Digital Image)

Please write an artist statement explaining your concept and process in creating this work. Post the written statement on your blog, with the image.

As always, please write your statement and edit it for spelling and grammar BEFORE posting please!

What you should discuss in your artist statement:

Which of the three terms you chose to focus on (Tension, Perspective, Layers) and your thought process about that term. In other words, I want to know your interpretation of the term and how you decided to express this interpretation through your digital image. You should always use correct terminology when discussing composition, and elements and principles of design that are significant.
Discuss any other part of your process that you felt was significant. Also, discuss your satisfaction with your work and what you learned in creating such a conceptual work.

Also, please post your finished portrait on your blog with a written statement about the following:

Which modern art style did you choose for your portrait and why? (identity/personality)
Explain how this style of art expresses your personality/identity and which elements of design you chose that helped express this style.

Note that in this video, butterfly lighting or paramount lighting is another term used for 'glamour' lighting.

KRE-A-TIV U-TURN MENTORSHIP PROGRAMCity of Toronto Cultural Hotspot Signature Partnership Project
PROJECT OVERVIEW:
Milkweed Collective will run 
KRE-A-TIV U-TURN from May through September 2015 in the Cultural Hotspot (West) neighbourhoods of Etobicoke. We are seeking eight (8) emerging artists (all disciplines), 18 to 25 years of age, who will learn to facilitate Milkweed's Exploring Creativity in Depth® (ECiD)program for children and youth. Participants in this mentorship program will design and direct summer arts programming for children in local community centres and libraries. Participants will also design, direct and produce a multimedia exhibition and performance incorporating children's artwork during Culture Days.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Artists from all artistic disciplines are welcome to apply

Honorarium: Participants each receive an honorarium of $1,200 paid in two instalments of $600 each.
Course Credit: Participants may apply to their respective institutions for academic credit for a course of Independent Study toward their undergraduate or graduate programs. The project provides 90 contact hours with the staff. This does not include the rehearsal and presentation of the final exhibition and performance.
