Written assignment to submit on PAPER.


After viewing one or two of the tutorials, you should be able to explain how the concept behind using masks and blending modes in Photoshop.

Please answer the following questions in a word document that you can print and submit to Ms. Silverman. Due: Thursday Feb. 11, 2016

1. In your own words, explain step by step how to use a mask in Photoshop.
2. Explain the BENEFIT of using masks in Photoshop. Why would you use masks vs. the eraser tool, for instance?
3. Explain where you would find blending modes and list a few examples of blending modes that are commonly used.
4. Explain what blending modes can do in Photoshop and why you would use them.

Also, find some images of your favourite (or least favourite) celebrity on the internet and try out using a mask to eliminate the background, put the image on another background and add a texture or other background to create an effect using blending modes. Post this image on your blog and briefly write about your technique.

Find a tutorial (video or written) on the internet, for a new (to you) technique in Photoshop. Post the link OR embed the video (if it's a video) into your blog post AND briefly summarize what you learned from watching this tutorial, whether it is explained well AND how you might use this.
