Year 2 and 3 - Video Game DVD assignment

Please go to the Yearbook folder - under CyberARTS - to find a folder called Skills Competition - in which you'll find both the written assignment (Practical Exam) and a folder of images and text that you can use to create your DVD for the Star Wars game.


I handed out the information last week, however if you need another copy, I have included the instructions below:

PURPOSE:  To design and digitally build an appropriate multi-panel Video Game Cover with Disk design. The Video Game is called STAR WARS - The Last Hope. The characters included are Princess Leia and Han Solo as the Heroes, and Darth Vader as the Villain.

Please read through the instructions carefully and follow them accurately. You may begin working on this assignment today. You will have three full classes to complete it (give or take). I will take one of the classes to brief you in using InDesign.
Due: Friday by the end of class for judging.  The winning design will have the opportunity to go to the TDSB Skills Competition on March 11th to compete in the Graphic Studio Production competition.


·      You will design/build an enticing look for a STAR WARS Video Game Cover with a 
target audience of teens and adults.    
·      You may only use Adobe Illustrator, PhotoShop and/or InDesign to 
create your designs. The final product must be submitted in Adobe InDesign.         
·      You must follow the template dimensions provided in the two .JPEG files and 
create new files in Adobe InDesign.                         
·      You must include at least three of the Images of Choice somewhere in your design.
·      You must include all of the Must Use Images on both your Cover and Disk design.
·      You must design/build any other graphics included in your foldout/disk design.
·      You must include the Copyright Text supplied somewhere within your Foldout.
·      You may alter any of the images provided on both the foldout and disk design.
·      You must hand-in all sketches you develop.
·      Your file will be saved as YourName.indd    For example   MattFountain.indd         
·      Place your completed file on your computers Desktop.
·      Refer to the judging criteria to ensure all components of the project are completed.
·      You may research anything on the internet
·      You may not use any images found on the internet, only the files provided.


Students must Demonstrate:
strong project planning and time management skills
knowledge of design and colour theory
technical competence with computers, scanners, and printers
technical knowledge of the format and requirements of creating
“press ready“ PDF files.
practical skill and knowledge in the use of a Vector Drawing application such as Adobe Illustrator CS4, Adobe InDesign CS4
practical skill and knowledge in the use of a Bitmap Editing application such as Adobe PhotoShop CS4
Practical skill and knowledge in the use of a Page Layout application
such as Adobe InDesign CS4,  Adobe Illustrator CS4
• ability to create and manipulate layers and channels use filters in an imaging program
• ability to manipulate and place images in a page layout application
• basic typographic knowledge, font usage and the ability to apply
kerning, tracking and styles in a page layout application
• ability to create a final project from supplied images and instructions
